and creative communication.

Macklin Intergenerational Institute

"Hand-in-Hand, We're connecting lives."

Maryiln and Gordon Macklin The Marilyn & Gordon Macklin Intergenerational Institute (Macklin Institute) was established in July 2003. The Institute was endowed by Marilyn & Gordon Macklin, former residents of Findlay, Ohio as a way to give back to a community that had been so good to them.

Today, and in the future, the Macklin Intergenerational Institute provides compassionate care and spontaneous exchanges that result in contact between and among the generations. It’s called intergenerational programming – a place where the young and old come together to share their talents, knowledge, and resources allowing their unique personal knowledge, experiences, and expectations to shape their interactions. Intergenerational programming offers an opportunity for generations to come together and to celebrate the uniqueness of one another. The Macklin Institute's mission is: To continually improve the lives of all ages through multi-age programming, care, community relationships, and creative communication.

Additional intergenerational iniatives coordinated and operated by the Macklin Institute include:

Marilyn’s Lifelong Educational Center (MLLEC)
An intergenerational childcare center located within Birchaven Retirement Village. The center is dedicated to providing quality childcare in an intergenerational setting. Daily, children age 6 weeks to five years interact, and build relationships with Birchaven residents. The staff members at MLLEC are uniquely cross-trained to work simultaneously with children and the senior adults in an environment that is warm and inviting for all generations.

“Oh Be Joyful Creations”
The Macklin Institute has developed intergenerational items such as note cards, calendars, clothing, and jewelry for purchase.

Professional Development
The Macklin Institute is devoted to strenthening intergenerational understanding and programming. Currently we offer the following training programs: The Rose Brook Journey (a certificate for intergenerational facilitators), Customer Service for an Aging America, Xtreme Aging, and Childhood Health and Safety Training. Coming soon: a credentialing program for intergenerational practitioners.

Please contact the Institute for information on program development, consultation services, research, training and development, or to visit the MLLEC.
